The History

About

Candlemaid is rooted in a deep personal connection to Cornwall, shaped by family, place, and a lifelong relationship with the sea.

A long-standing connection to Cornwall, with family history reaching back generations. Growing up, life unfolded along the River Camel, where water moves gently toward the sea and the coastline is never far away. That closeness, between river, estuary, and shore,  shaped an early and lasting connection to the coast.

Each candle is named in Kernewek, the Cornish language, as a way of honouring both heritage and place. The names are simple and intentional,

Treth (beach), Mor (sea), Howl (sun) and Loor (moon), reflecting familiar moments by the shore that feel timeless and deeply personal.

While the inspiration remains firmly rooted in Cornwall, Candlemaid candles are carefully made in Oxfordshire. This blending of past and present allows each candle to carry a sense of continuity, coastal at heart, yet crafted for modern, everyday living.

Using coconut wax and carefully balanced fragrance blends, Candlemaid candles are designed to create a serene atmosphere and invite stillness into your home. The scents are warm, comforting, and unhurried, inspired by sun-warmed shores, salt-kissed air, and the quiet rhythm of water and light.

Candlemaid is not about excess or trends. It is about slowing down, honouring where you come from, and bringing a quiet sense of coastal tranquillity into daily life.
